The Next Ten Interview with Onno Ruding

10 Top Dutch thinkers

I interviewed Onno Ruding, former Dutch Minister of Finance, for Accenture's The Next Ten App Book. The project combined old media of 10 written interviews from top Dutch thinkers with new media by chopping a hole in the book for your smart phone.

What is an App Book?

Yes, I was a writer for an app book. I don't have my complimentary copy yet, so I cannot sing the praises or even explain with accuracy what an app book actually is. My part of the written interview is consider "old media".

Talking with Onno Ruding, old style

Call me "old media" any day of the week if I get to sit across from people like Onno Ruding who can explain and make sense out of the financial crisis. In the interview, he did not want to make predictions for the next 10 years, but did say "Big banks will become even bigger" which is the heading for his piece.

Time to sharpen my chisel and carve out a few more words in stone.

    Kenes Group Website Renewal Project

Biggest, fattest overhaul

Freshly published on November 16, the www.kenes.com website overhaul was my first solo project as a web writer and editor. I worked on a team of copywriters on the www.dsm.com project published in February. Earlier this year, I joined the Ninth Floor Communication team with veteran copywriters Mike Croall and Garry Piggott.

Sealed with duct tape

A few other big fat projects are on the table, desktop, back burner and front burner. But, my big fat mouth, my big fat twitter and big fat website are all duct taped shut until officially published.

    Big Fat Writer on Expatica.com

Featured Writer in the NL

In August 2011, an interview with Big Fat Writer was featured in Expatica.com, a news and information website for the international community. The interview was published in Expat Voices and explains how I ended up in the Netherlands, what I write about, how living abroad has influenced my writing, and more.

They had lots of questions. Here are two from the light, low calorie, diet version.

What do you like most about writing?

I am creative, sarcastic, funny, dynamic, daring and full of personality. When writing for financial organizations during the financial crisis, much of my writing personality was stripped away and we had to write about just the facts. I would like to be paid to be hilarious, write funny and be more creative. Right now, not being funny is paying the bills.

How has living abroad influenced your work as a writer?

Being in the Netherlands is better for my English writing, copywriting, editing business. Not so many people can write well in English. In this country my skills are special and needed. Being a native English speaker in the US or UK is more competitive, and my English skills are less special.
